Mo' Roots is the seventh studio album by American blues artist Taj Mahal. All tracks composed by Taj Mahal except where indicated. Johnny Too Bad Delroy Wilson, Winston Bailey, Hylton Beckford, Derrick Crooks. Black Jack Davey. Big Mama. Cajun Waltz. Slave Driver Bob Marley. Why Did You Have to Desert Me. Desperate Lover Bob Andy. Clara St. Kitts Woman. Taj Mahal - vocals. Hoshal Wright - guitar. Bill Rich - bass. Merl Saunders - organ. Aston Family Man Barrett - ska piano. An interesting concept to say the least, here's an exemplary collection of blues tunes all covered by Taj Mahal at one point or another. But here's the original versions of classics by Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Willie McTell, Leadbelly, Sleepy John Estes, Son House, Washboard Sam, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Blind Boy Fuller and they sound every bit as fine - if not infinitely superior - as Taj's later covers. Taj Mahal, The Hidden Treasures of Taj Mahal 1969-1973. For Taj Mahal born Henry St. Clair Fredericks, the blues have always been a mutable feast. These two CDs come from his early years at Columbia, when his LPs zigzagged between country funk, electric-combo grind and the truly heavy breath of Mahals famous four tubas band. These recordings are outtakes including a 10-track live show from 1970. This CD, jammed with 32 tracks, is part of a multidisc project from the Bear Family label covering the roots and bloom of black vocal R&B. There is no low year in the series. But 1956 is primal golden soul all the way through. Track listing. Why Did You Have to Desert Me
