Interview from 1956, recorded at the Plaza Hotel in New York City by Ben Raeburn, Marianne Mantell and Barbara Holdridge. Released on LP 1961 on Lloyd Wright June 8, 1867 April 9, 1959 was an American architect, interior designer, writer, and educator, whose creative period spanned more than 70 years, designing more than 1,000 structures, of which 532 were completed. Wright believed in designing structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was best exemplified by Fallingwater 1935, which has been called the best all-time work of American. Frank Lloyd Wright was born in Richland Center, Wis. on June 8, 1867, the son of William Carey Wright, a preacher and a musician, and Anna Lloyd Jones, a teacher whose large Welsh family had settled the valley area near Spring Green, Wisconsin. His early childhood was nomadic as his father traveled from one ministry position to another in Rhode Island, Iowa, and Massachusetts, before settling in Madison, Wis. in 1878. Wrights parents divorced in 1885, making already challenging financial circumstances even more challenging. In 1956, Frank Lloyd Wright said about an impossible client, There can be but one Louis Fredrick. He does not know what he wants, nor what he does not want. He has cost us more pains in time and money. than he can ever repay. If ever he gets a house, he will be the architect-and God help both him and the house. Oddly, Wright was addressing that complaint to the client himself. The low-slung house has a daylit corridor along the bedrooms and entrance and, at the other end, a long gallery leading to the study. The Frank Lloyd Wright Estate is indisputably the most exclusive venue in the Bay Area. All proceeds go toward the preservation of this architectural gem. Few figures are as ever-present in American architecture as Frank Lloyd Wright, a visionary whose work continues to serve as an inspiration, the bedrock upon which much of modernist architecture is built. From revolutionary Prairie-style dwellings to singular organic designs and accessible Usonian models, Wrights work rethought architectural tenets-and made Wright a celebrity in his lifetime. According to the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy there are over a dozen original Wright-designed homes currently on the market and less than 300 original Wright houses left in the world. Despite all the difficulties of his personal life, Wright rises above all and beats all the odds to design some of the most famous buildings using brilliant and distinctively innovative designs that only his genius could create. If you're a fan of architecture, this is probably an album you should have. And everyone was a fan of FLW's work. Am I a fan of his opinions? No, not really. He was a bit of an obnoxious, bitter, and arrogant old man. But what a great album cover, eh?
